Born in 1963 into a pottery-making family in Yixing. In 1980, he began studying modern ceramic art innovation and design under his father, Senior Craft Artist Zhuge Yongnan. In 1983, he pursued further studies in ceramic form design at the Department of Ceramic Art, Central Academy of Arts & Design (now Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University), receiving guidance from Professors Zhang Shouzhi, Yang Yongshan, Wang Xiaolin, Wang Jianzhong, and others. In 1992, he studied under Chinese National Arts and Crafts Master Xu Xiutang, learning purple sand carving and teapot design. He is currently engaged in creating purple sand teapots and sculptures at Yixing Purple Sand Craft Factory.


Over more than three decades of artistic practice, he has infused traditional forms with modern elements, creating works of neoclassical artistry that blend Eastern and Western aesthetics. His works have won over 50 awards in domestic and international exhibitions. Among them, Hexin Vase, Xuanfeng Vase, Diguang, Zhengyan, Shuiyun, Shiqu Pair Teapots, and Xianyun Teapot have won gold, silver, and bronze awards in the 4th, 5th, 7th, 8th, and 10th National Ceramic Art Innovation and Design Competitions. Chunyu Mianmian won the 6th Golden Ceramics Award in Taiwan in 2000;


Zhengliu won an Excellence Award at the 1st World Ceramic Biennale in Korea in 2001. Works such as Xianyun Teapot, Tiandi Fangyuan Teapot, Zaochun Eryue Teapot, and Xishui Changliu Teapot are in the permanent collections of the Purple Light Pavilion of the State Council of China, as well as several museums, including the Jiangxi Provincial Museum.
