Born in 1956 into a pottery-making family in Dingshu Town, Yixing, Fang Xiaolong （方小龙） pursued advanced studies at the Central Academy of Arts and Crafts in 2002. He systematically studied professional theoretical knowledge, including sketching, ceramic design, ceramic form fundamentals, and ceramic decoration. Through continuous exploration and creation of traditional antique ceramics, he established a solid artistic foundation for form design and new product development. He researched and refined the formal aesthetics and rational production processes of traditional Zhuni teapots, developing a distinct personal style. Over more than three decades in the purple sand industry, leveraging solid foundational skills, diligence, and a passion for learning, he has created outstanding works that reflect his unique style, earning recognition and collaboration from the literati.
His works have won many awards, including the Silver Prize at the First China Ceramic Art Exhibition (Zhongtao • Fangyuan Cup), Gold Prizes at the Third through Fifteenth China National Arts and Crafts Master Fine Works Expositions, the Gold Prize at the Golden Key Cup Fine Tea Set Design Competition, and the Gold Prize at the First Biluochun Cultural Festival of the China Famous Tea Expo, among dozens of others. His works are also permanently collected by institutions such as the China Purple Sand Museum, Tianjin Museum, Jilin Provincial Museum, and Creighton University in the United States.
Fang Xiaolong has been invited many times to exchange ceramic art at institutions in the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, Malaysia, as well as Hong Kong and Taiwan, China.
