Yang Qinfang
Provincial Master of Arts and Crafts in Jiangsu
Provincial Master of Ceramic Art in Jiangsu
Senior Crafts and Arts Artist
Vice President of the China Yixing Purple Clay Cultural Research Association
Visiting Professor at Wuxi Vocational and Technical College

Born in 1951 into a family with generations of expertise in purple clay art in Yixing’s Shushan area, Yang Qinfang began studying under renowned Chinese master of arts and crafts Lü Yaochen in the early 1980s and also received guidance from veteran purple clay artist Wang Shigeng. Since dedicating himself to purple clay art, he has emphasized building on tradition while drawing inspiration from China’s rich cultural heritage.

His creative vision spans from Neolithic artifacts, ancient pottery, and ritual bronze ware of the Shang and Zhou dynasties to lacquerware, stone carvings of the Qin and Han periods, and even gold and silver utensils of the Tang imperial court. His works artfully incorporate traditional culture and national character, often carrying profound symbolism and a refined, classical elegance—solemn yet richly textured. He has been acclaimed at home and abroad as a “Master of the Oriental Courtly Style.”
