Jiang Xin'an

Jiang Xin'an (chinese name 蒋新安) is a distinguished figure in Chinese ceramic arts, specializing in the Yixing Zisha (purple clay) tradition. Recognized as a leading artist and educator, he holds dual provincial master titles in Jiangsu for both ceramic art and arts & crafts, and serves as a senior professor and evaluator in the field.

Education & Mentorship
Born in 1952, Jiang studied at the Wuxi Institute of Arts & Technology, the Jingdezhen Ceramic Institute, and the Central Academy of Arts & Design (now the Tsinghua University Academy of Arts & Design). His artistic development was shaped by guidance from renowned pioneers such as Pang Xunqin, Chang Shana, and Tian Zibing, as well as later coaching from ceramic masters including Wang Xiliang and Gu Jingzhou.

Artistic Philosophy & Style
Jiang creates with the insight of a scholar, the vision of an artist, and a contemporary design sensibility. His works are noted for their intellectual depth, cultural resonance, and thematic coherence—often developed in series—setting his style apart in the Zisha art world.

International Recognition
He has been invited to demonstrate Zisha hand-forming techniques at prestigious events such as the Korean World Ceramic Biennale and the 42nd International Ceramic Art Congress. His pieces have received over forty awards, including fifteen national and international gold prizes.

Academic & Research Contributions
With nearly fifty years in art and education, Jiang has mentored many of today’s leading ceramic artists, including several recognized as Chinese Masters of Arts and Crafts or Chinese Ceramic Art Masters.

He contributed to the national research project Study of Chinese Purple Clay Art, earning the title “Master of Chinese Zisha Art,” and co-authored the authoritative reference Chinese Purple Clay Ceramics. He also edited the volume Purple Jade and Golden Sand: A Collection of Fine Works by Contemporary Yixing Zisha Masters and published two personal anthologies titled Xin'an Art: Special Collection of Zisha Masterpieces.

Honors
Among his accolades is the “Outstanding Contribution Award in Ceramic Art and Design Education,” reflecting his lifelong dedication to advancing the field.
