Pan Xiaozhong was born in Shushan, Yixing, Jiangsu Province in 1968. In the mid‑1980s, he entered the Yixing Zisha Craft Factory No. 2 to study ceramics, leaving behind his carpentry background to embark on an artistic career in pottery. In 1988, he was admitted to the Zisha Research Institute and became a disciple of Xu Hantang, a Chinese Arts and Crafts Master. There he systematically acquired the all‑handmade forming techniques and modeling theories of Zisha ware, thereby building a solid foundation in purple clay craftsmanship.
At the same time, as an inheritor of the Guilin Teapot Art lineage, he studied the teapot works of earlier masters of this tradition and gained deep insight into the essence of Zisha creation. Through his own diligence, rigorous pragmatism, and the careful guidance of many renowned masters, he has become proficient in a wide range of teapot forms — square, round, and floral. Later, he pursued further studies at the Jiangsu Provincial Advanced Training Course for Arts and Crafts and the Advanced Training Course for Ceramic Art Creation and Design at Tsinghua University. On the artistic path of inheriting, developing and breaking new ground in teapot art, he explores tirelessly, finding immense joy in the journey.
