Born in 1947, Pan Hongjun learned the craft of pile decoration from his father, Pan Sanda, from an early age. He pioneered the transition of pile decoration from localized to holistic application, earning him the industry-recognized title of “Top Pile Decoration Artist.” He also developed the technique of yin-yang color filling in purple clay art and is hailed as the contemporary “Crane King.” Having received guidance from renowned masters such as Gu Jingzhou, Zhu Kexin, and Wang Yinchun, his works stand out for their distinctive design and form. His mastery of flower-and-bird and landscape painting in an impressionistic style is unparalleled, imbued with a rich folk art character. His pieces integrate various techniques from Yixing purple clay, colored pottery, and Jun pottery, earning many awards in national exhibitions and becoming part of many museum collections.
