Liu Rongping is a Jiangsu Provincial Ceramic Art Celebrity (Third Cohort, 2023), a Professor-level Senior Arts and Crafts Master, a Professor-level Senior Rural Revitalization Artisan, and a member of the Jiangsu Provincial Ceramic Art Committee. She currently works at the No. 1 Factory of the Jiangsu Yixing Zisha Crafts Factory.
Born in 1963 in Yixing, the “Pottery Capital,” Liu began her apprenticeship at the Zisha Crafts Factory in 1980. In 1984, she attended Jiangnan University for further study. In 1992, she was selected to join the Zisha Crafts Factory Research Institute, where she studied under Jiangsu Provincial Arts and Crafts Master Jiang Yan and devoted herself to the design and making of Zisha teapots. That same year, she furthered her studies at the Central Academy of Arts and Crafts, now the Academy of Arts & Design at Tsinghua University. With careful guidance from her teachers and her own diligent practice, she later established the Liu Rongping Zisha Art Studio.
Her scholarly and artistic cultivation is broad, and her craftsmanship is profound. Her works cover a wide range of subjects and possess a heroic spirit, strength, humanistic resonance, and historical depth rarely found in teapots made by women. At the same time, they often reveal lively charm, fully expressing her love of life and nature. Works such as her Fish-to-Dragon Tea Set have won multiple awards in various competitions and have been collected by a number of museums.
