Wu Peilin

Wu Peilin is a renowned Chinese master craftsman celebrated for his innovative and poetic Zisha (Yixing clay) teapots. His signature technique involves skillfully twisting and inlaying clays of different colors to create abstract, landscape-like scenes that are seamless both inside and outside the vessel. Based in Yixing, the birthplace of Zisha art, his work bridges traditional craftsmanship with contemporary artistic expression.
Honored as a Jiangsu Provincial Master of Arts and Crafts (2011).
Awarded the title of UNESCO "First-Class Folk Craft Artist" for his contributions to intangible cultural heritage.
His works have received top honors at major national and international exhibitions, including gold prizes at the Beijing International Folk Arts Expo and the China Folk Art Festival.
Serves in leadership roles within prestigious cultural institutions, including as Deputy Director of the Central Academy of Painting for the China National Democratic Construction Association.
Moving beyond traditional forms, Wu Peilin treats the teapot's surface as a canvas. His "clay-painting" technique uses the natural textures and colors of the clay itself to evoke the misty hills, flowing water, and vast skies of the Chinese landscape tradition. This unique approach has established him as a distinctive voice in modern Zisha art.
He actively contributes to the theoretical field, authoring influential papers on clay decoration techniques and modern ceramic art. His published collections, such as "The Melody of Heaven and Earth in Teapots" and "Fragrance Lingers in the Clay," document his artistic journey and philosophy.
Born in 1954 in Yixing, Jiangsu Province, China.
Graduated from Jiangsu Radio and Television University (1982).
Established his studio, "Muni Tang".
His works are held in private and museum collections worldwide.
