Born in 1955, Jiang Yan (蒋彦) joined the Yixing Zisha Pottery Factory in 1972, where he apprenticed under the renowned artisans Wang Yinchun, Lü Yaochen, and Li Bifang, the Chinese Master of Arts and Crafts, as well as the Jiangsu Master of Arts and Crafts. He studied traditional forms and design under their guidance.
He later attended the Central Academy of Arts and Crafts (now the Ceramics Department of Tsinghua University) three times to further his studies in design and theory. Over the years, he has developed his own distinctive style, characterized by substantial forms, a preference for classical simplicity, exceptional smoothness, and a bold, commanding presence. His works have won numerous national gold awards.

Among his notable creations, the Ancient Well Charm is displayed in the Ziguang Pavilion at Zhongnanhai, while Contentment Brings Happiness – Overhead Handle Pot is exhibited at the Nanjing Museum. His achievements have been featured across major media outlets. In 2010, he was recognized by over a hundred media organizations as one of the "Top Ten Cultural Industry News Figures of China."
