Cao Wanfen

Born in 1940 into a family of pottery artisans in Shushan Town, Cao Wanfen was immersed in the world of purple clay art from a young age, developing a deep passion for crafting Zisha ware.

In 1955, she became a disciple of Zhu Kexin, a master of Zisha floral-style pottery. Her three-year apprenticeship laid a solid foundation in fully handcrafted techniques. Through teaching apprentices, training at the Central Academy of Arts & Crafts, and guidance from masters such as Pei Shimin, Wang Yinchun, and Gu Jingzhou, her artistic skills flourished. With over five decades of dedication, she has mastered the essence of various schools, bridging tradition and innovation while establishing her own distinctive style.

Devoting her life to the research and creation of Zisha pottery, she has designed hundreds of original works. Her pieces honor historical traditions while incorporating contemporary cultural concepts, earning numerous awards in international and national ceramic competitions. She has participated in exhibitions and cultural exchanges across Southeast Asia, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, receiving widespread acclaim.
