Born in Yixing in 1963, Xia Shujun (夏淑君) began her apprenticeship in Zisha (purple clay) pottery making in 1979 under masters Zhang Qingcheng and Jiang Jianming. In 1987, she further studied creative design under master Yang Qinfang. Her works cover a wide range of themes, each with its own distinctive character. Throughout her artistic practice, she has remained dedicated to learning from senior artists and peers, diligently refining her skills and drawing from diverse influences to enhance her design and craftsmanship. She is especially skilled in crafting floral-inspired pieces, such as plum-stump teapots and pumpkin teapots, which vividly imitate natural forms.
Notable Achievements:
Riverside Delight received the Traditional Art Gold Award at the 3rd China Arts and Crafts Fine Arts Expo.
The Taihu Melon Teapot was awarded the Gold Prize by the Jiangsu Provincial Arts and Crafts Association at the 2nd China (Yixing) Original Zisha Patent Works Exhibition.
Heartfelt Teapot is housed in the collection of the National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall.
The Earth Affection Teapot is preserved in the Purple Light Pavilion of the South Sea.
She has also competed in international skills competitions in Hong Kong (China), Australia, and the Czech Republic, earning two gold medals and one bronze medal.
