Born in March 1948 in Yixing, Jiangsu, Wu previously served as Director of the Yixing Jun Pottery Research Institute and Curator of the China Yixing Ceramics Museum. Representative works such as “Han Dynasty Performers,” “Eternal Honor,” “Ancient Gui Replica,” and “Langshi Teapot” have won gold and silver awards in national ceramic art design competitions. His frequent exhibition successes and accolades have earned him media titles like “Eccentric Talent of Jiangnan” and “Award Specialist.”

In particular, the “Han Dynasty Performers” series was presented as a national gift by the Chinese Olympic Committee to International Olympic Committee President Jacques Rogge in 2006. At the 2008 International Olympic Fine Arts Exhibition, the series received a bronze award among over 10,000 entries from more than 40 countries.

His publications include Scholars and Purple Clay Art in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Ziye Shidiao Teapot and Its Formal Evolution, My Journey with Sports-themed Ceramic Art, Environmental Ceramics and Urban Development, and Yao Chen’s Ceramic Art (co-edited with his mentor Yang Yongshan). Wu Xiaomei is currently the only Olympic-themed ceramic artist in China.
