Born in 1949 in Dingshu Town, Yixing, Jiangsu Province, Wei Zhongyun began his apprenticeship in pottery at a local ceramic factory in 1960. He later underwent professional training in craft aesthetics and design at Yixing Ceramics School and the Central Academy of Craft Art (under Professor Chen Ke, among others). His early development was also guided by the renowned master Zhu Kexin, a foundational figure in Yixing zisha art.
Over a career spanning more than half a century, Wei has dedicated himself to advancing both the theory and practice of his craft, achieving a highly refined artistic vision. Skilled in Chinese calligraphy, painting, seal carving, and sculpture, he is particularly noted for integrating classical Chinese cultural themes into his zisha teaware, creating works of distinctive character, elegant taste, and profound cultural depth.
With over a hundred original works to his name, Wei has developed a unique and celebrated style within the zisha tradition. Notable award-winning pieces include:

His “Sacred Peach Tea Set” was selected by the State Council as a high-level national gift. Many of his outstanding works are held in the collections of major museums worldwide.
