Born in 1957 in Yixing, Jiangsu, Liu Jianping (刘建平) apprenticed under renowned masters Gao Lijun and Lü Yaochen, and furthered his studies at Nanjing University of the Arts and the Central Academy of Craft Art. His works blend personal artistic sensibility, forming a style characterized by simplicity, grandeur, rich meaning, distinctive individuality, and elegant taste.

He has received over twenty national and provincial-level awards and was selected for the Japan Mino International Ceramics Competition three consecutive times. Liu has been invited to hold exhibitions and participate in artistic exchanges abroad on multiple occasions and has published a personal monograph. Several of his research papers have been published, among which "On the Naked Beauty of Plain Zisha Ware" was selected as an outstanding paper for permanent display, collection, and archiving by the National Science Archives.

His works are housed in the collections of the National Museum of China, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of China, and the Purple Light Pavilion of Zhongnanhai. As early as 1988, he was acclaimed as one of the "Four Rising Stars of Zisha." In 2002, he was featured in a special report by CCTV's "Oriental Sons" program.
