Description

The capacity of this teapot is 180 milliliters. It is a collectible teapot fully handmade by the master artist Qian Xiaojun 钱小军, with fully hand-engraved calligraphy by the master artist Wu Dongyuan 吴东元. Qian Xiaojun is a National Class-A Senior Craft Artist of China 中国国家级高级工艺美术师 and also a National Class-A Senior Rural Revitalization Specialist of China 中国国家级高级乡村振兴师. Wu Dongyuan is a National Class-A Senior Craft Artist of China. The teapot is made from the Authentic yuan kuang Dicaoqing clay from the No. 4 Well of Huanglong Mountain in Dingshu Town, Yixing, and has been fired five times in a high-temperature kiln. It features an elegant form, smooth lines, and abundant charm.

The signature on the calligraphic inscription carved on the teapot is Banding 半丁, which is the art name of the great master artist Wu Dongyuan 吴东元.

Wu Dongyuan (style name Banding 半丁) is a member of the Yixing Ceramic Industry Association of Jiangsu, a standing director of the China National Arts and Crafts Association, and a National-Level Senior Craft Artist. Born in 1972 in Shushan, Yixing, he has been studying under Mr. Wu Qunxiang since 1992.

His works inherit the artistic style of the Gu school of plain and smooth-surfaced pottery, displaying a broad creative vision and rich variation. He is also skilled in ceramic engraving and decoration, which has earned wide recognition from both industry professionals and collectors.

His works have received numerous awards and accolades:

  • In 1997, at the Ceramic Exhibition Commemorating the Handover of Hong Kong to China, his work No. 001, the Century Great Tripod, was permanently collected by the Great Hall of the People.

  • In 2000, at the China (Tsinghua University) International Ceramic Exchange Exhibition, his work Bundle was permanently collected.

  • In 2006, at the First China Yixing Purple Clay Pottery All-Handcraft Skills Competition, he was awarded the title of "Outstanding Inheritor".

  • Also in 2006, at the 8th National Ceramic Art Design and Innovation Competition, his work Harmony Brings Prosperity won a bronze award. This piece was later exhibited in 2009 at the "Pottery Capital Wind" exhibition at the National Art Museum of China.

  • In 2010, at the 9th National Ceramic Design Competition, his series of literati pots — Zen Words, Enlightenment, and Confucian Conduct — won a silver award.

  • In 2012, he pursued advanced studies at the inaugural "Advanced Seminar on Purple Clay Art" at the Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University.

  • In 2015, he was named one of the "Top Ten (Outstanding) Young Ceramic Artists of Pottery Capital Yixing" (the third session of this honor).

  • Also in 2015, he won a silver award in the intermediate group of the first "Jingzhou Cup" Pot Making Competition.
