Born in 1957 in Dingshu Town, Yixing, Qiang Dejun (强德俊)holds a bachelor’s degree. He began his artistic journey in 1976 at the Yixing Purple Clay Factory, where he studied purple‑clay shaping under Master Gao Lijun. In 1980, he apprenticed with Master Xu Xiutang to learn purple‑clay sculpting.

In 1985, he attended the Ceramic Form Design seminar at the Ceramics Department of the Central Academy of Craft Art. He later participated in the Ceramic Innovation Design advanced workshop organized by the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Human Resources and Social Security in 2007, and in 2012, he joined the “Purple Clay Art Advanced Seminar” held by the Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University. Through these experiences and collaborative projects, he gained profound insights, absorbing the diverse artistic language, techniques, and creative thinking of purple‑clay art. He has been instructed by professors such as Chen Ruoju, Zhang Shouzhi, Yang Yongshan, Zheng Ning, and Wang Hui.

In 1988, he founded the Qiang Dejun Studio, and in 2010, he established the “Dejun Ceramic Art” research institute to teach and mentor apprentices. In 2012, together with Zhu Liaowang and Qiang Yi, he co‑founded the “Qinzhitang” Purple Clay Art Gallery.

His works, including the Nine‑piece Inlaid Clay “Jade Body” Tea Set and He Wan Teapot, have been collected by the Zhongnanhai “Ziguang Pavilion” and numerous museums both in China and abroad. Pieces such as Spring Water Tea Set and Phoenix‑style Overhead‑handle Teapot have been selected for national ceramic art exhibitions at the National Museum of China and have received multiple awards. He also holds several intellectual property rights.

Currently, he works at the Research Institute of the Yixing Purple Clay Factory, specializing in the creation of purple‑clay teaware.
