Siyutao Yixing Zisha Lao Qing Duan Ni (Purple Clay)
Authentic Yixing Zisha clay, sourced directly from Huanglong Mine No. 4 in Dingshu Town, Yixing City.
This purple clay was mined in 1992 from Huanglong Mountain’s No. 4 mine. After three years of natural weathering, the raw ore was manually processed in 1995 using traditional methods by Siyutao Clay Workshop. The clay was then stored underground for aging and remained in the cellar until its retrieval in 2023.
The passage of time, meticulous handcrafting, and the high-quality mineral composition have collectively forged this excellent clay into a truly exceptional material.
This is a magnified photo of the lao qing duan ni used in this teapot. The mineral is rich, crystals are visible.
Depending on the kiln temperature, this clay can appear in two colors: qing 青 and yellowish-brown. Below is the qing 青 version after high-temperature firing.

Siyutao has obtained certification under China's National Geographical Indication system and has been officially authorized by the government to use the Yixing zisha 宜兴紫砂 geographical indication. Out of the tens of thousands of teaware merchants in Yixing, only three have been granted this distinction to date, and Siyutao is among them. (Click here to find out more about geographical indications.) This serves as solid proof that the zisha teaware sold by Siyutao is genuine Yixing ware.
