He Daohong, born in January 1943 in Dingshu Town, Yixing, Jiangsu, is a Master of Chinese Ceramic Art 中国陶瓷艺术大师 (inaugural class of 2003), a Senior-level Master of Arts and Crafts, a member of the China Arts and Crafts Society, and an advisor to the Jiangsu Ceramic Art Committee. He studied under the renowned Zisha masters Wang Yinchun and Pei Shimin, and later furthered his training at the Central Academy of Arts and Crafts in Beijing. With over fifty years of dedication, he has forged the distinctive “He Style” in the world of Zisha. His fully handmade forming techniques and profound artistic accomplishment elevate his works to an unparalleled level, making them among the most coveted and highest-priced Zisha teapots today. His creations encompass figurative designs such as pine, bamboo, plum, and peach, as well as the full spectrum of plain-ware, square-ware, and ribbed-ware, all imbued with a robust strength that defines the unique spirit and charm of the “He Style.” Collectors from Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Southeast Asia prize his works highly. Master He Daohong’s pieces have been collected by the Central Academy of Arts and Crafts, the Palace Museum, and the Ziguangge Hall of Zhongnanhai, and have been chosen multiple times as state gifts for foreign heads of state. In national-level competitions, his works have won two first prizes and six gold awards. He has also been honored with the “Special Inheritance Award of the Top Ten Contemporary Famous Kilns” and the “Lifetime Achievement Award in Chinese Ceramic Art, Design, and Education.” In 2000, his personal monograph Zhen Hu Zao Jian 珍壶藻鉴 was published.
