Born in Dingshan, the pottery capital, in May 1961, Fang began her journey in the design and creation of Yixing purple clay teapots in 1977. As the first disciple of Xu Hantang, she was sponsored by her mentor to further her studies at the Department of Ceramics of the Central Academy of Arts & Design in 1987, where she gained profound insights into the essence of purple clay art and gradually developed her own artistic style.
Her works are characterized by original elegance, dignity, refinement, and a strong scholarly sensibility, seamlessly integrating the art of calligraphy and painting with purple clay pottery. She has collaborated with renowned Chinese painters and calligraphers such as Zhu Qizhan, Tang Yun, Liu Danzhai, Cheng Shifa, Guan Liang, Xie Zhiliu, Chen Peiqiu, and Shen Juechu. Her works have been featured in Appreciation of Purple Clay Teapots, edited by Tang Yun, and are highly prized by collectors both in China and abroad.
In recent years, her works have been featured in television programs and specialized publications, alongside published academic papers. Many of her pieces have won gold medals in international exhibitions held in Malaysia, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. She has also actively participated in charitable initiatives within the purple clay community, contributing to society. Today, she is recognized as a contemporary master potter in the authentic lineage of Gu Jingzhou.
